Hollywood superstar Jennifer Lopez (JLo) is a musician, actress, and businesswoman who came to fame through her performance in Selena (1997). She played several roles in films and soon became one of the highest-paid Latina actress in Hollywood. Besides her impressive acting, she also known as a pop queen with hit singles and albums.
Born in the Bronx, New York on July 24, 1969, Jennifer Lynn Lopez developed her performing skills through musical theater when she was young. At the age of 16, she appeared in My Little Girl (1986) with a small role. After winning a national competition, she made a debut as a dancer in Fox television series In Living Color in 1990. She then established her acting career through playing as some roles for several films and TV shows.
She rose to fame with her appearance as a title role in a biopic of pop singer Selena Quintillana-Perez called Selena in 1997. Her outstanding acting was recognized with a Golden Globe nomination and countless praise. She also played in a based-on-novel film Out of Sight as federal marshal Karen Sisco. As if her successful acting debut was not enough, Lopez began her music career with a debut Latin-pop album On the 6 that released in 1999. The single “If You Had My Love” successfully went platinum only in two weeks, made her became one of the famous Latina pop singers.
It was also sold more than eight million copies worldwide. The follow up self-titled album was launched in 2001 which reached hundred-thousand copies. She also peaked at the No. 2 on the Billboard 200 for the next album. Lopez released a Spanish-language album Como Ama una Mujer in 2007 and later topped the Billboard chart. She went on tour after releasing pop album Brave in the same year.
JLo was one of the judges on the 2011 American Idol, alongside Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson. After two years, just when she reportedly divorced with Marc Anthony, she departed from the show. She came back with a hits collection Dance Again… The Hits that peaked the Billboard chart in 2012. Besides actively releasing awesome albums, JLo lent her voice in an animated feature film Home and sang for its theme song.
In 2019, she participated in American crime-comedy film Hustlers which led her to earn best supporting actress nomination from Golden Globe. Alongside Shakira, JLo took a chance to perform in the Super Bowl 2020 halftime show that held in Miami, Florida. Both of them rocked the stage with high energy set, successfully delivered the empowering message within their performance.
